What is GSM and MIB?
Geosmin(GSM) and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) are the main sources of malodor in drinking water. The main reason for the production of these two substances is seaweed pollution. The odor thresholds of geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) are so low that very small amounts can cause unpleasant odors and tastes in drinking water. Therefore, it is very important to remove geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB).
The blue-green algae in the water produce geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB). Both geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) are substances with a foul odor, which releases a mildly soily smell. When blue-green algae produce a large amount of these substances in drinking water, it will cause the water some odor. The proliferation of algae is affected by the climate, so the problem of geosmin and 2-methylisobornol usually occurs in summer and warmer seasons.
Zhulin activated carbon powder has made test and reached a good effect. Among them, the removal rate of GSM has reached more than 90%, and 2-MIB has reached about 80%.
